Judge Éiteáin Cunningham convicted the defendant after Gardaí stopped car in Ballyshannon

A Bundoran resident has been fined €250 after he was caught driving without insurance in Ballyshannon.

Roman Chukov, 48, of Atlantic Point Apartments, Bundoran, appeared at Ballyshannon District Court before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham.

He was convicted of a charge dating from July 7, 2025, at Coolcholly, Ballyshannon, that was contrary to Section 56 (1) & (3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961, as amended by Section 18 of the Road Traffic Act 2006.

Gardaí told Judge Cunningham that Chukov was observed driving his vehicle slowly around Coolcholly roundabout, which alerted them to the vehicle.

A Garda mobile device indicated there was no insurance, and on further conversation with the driver, he admitted he had no insurance and his vehicle was seized.

The court heard that the defendant had no previous convictions.

Judge Cunningham asked Chukov if he required his licence, and if he worked or had a family, to which Chukov responded via an interpreter: “Yes. He has family here and requires a car for work.”

Chukov was convicted by Judge Cunningham and fined €250, payable within four months, but he was not disqualified from driving.

Judge Cunningham warned: “However, if he comes back before the court and is convicted of a similar offence, he will be disqualified from driving for a period of four years.”
