Donegal band Delta Minor make a major impression with debut single

Rising Buncrana four-piece bring their own original sound to the fore with ‘Simmer’ release
Review by Niamh Friel
In just four minutes, Buncrana band Delta Minor have delivered one of the most profound and relatable releases of 2026.
September 18th marked the day that the Inishowen locals dropped their debut single ‘Simmer’ and despite being together for several years, it was worth the wait.
The up-and-coming band comprises four members: Ryan McGrath on vocals, Joseph Doherty on bass, Gabriel Doherty on guitar, and Liam McCarron on drums.
Nowadays, when people search for Irish artists, they look to growing household names like Kingfisher and Amble, and while they’re honourable mentions, it is in the rural town of Buncrana, Donegal, that we find Delta Minor: a favourite amongst locals and a hidden gem from the rest of the world, at least for now.
The band can commonly be found covering timeless, crowd-pleasing rock classics from Purple Haze to I Want You So Bad, and they have toured their local circuit while refining their sound.
Their first original offering, Simmer, takes on a more measured, brooding demeanour that exposes a depth of feeling and craftsmanship that is a testament to their dedication and skill as musicians.
The simplicity of the composition allows the lyrics to become the focal point of the song and the dynamic energy of the accompaniment skillfully climbs to showcase the most impactful lyrics.
The grit in lead singer McGrath’s voice as he delivers the line “Now I have to live with knowing I made you what you are” is evidence of this.
The lads recently supported another rising local talent, Dead Calm, in Sandino’s Bar in Derry, where I had the good fortune of hearing Simmer performed live, and with the intimate venue nearly full, it was the perfect setting to witness this raw and heartfelt track capture the whole room.
Although, you don’t have to take my word for it, you can catch them in Belfast on October 26th at Lavery’s and hear it for yourself.
The bar has been set for Delta Minor, don’t miss out on what comes next.
