Popular Ballyshannon butchers to close marking the end of 64 years

Rooney's Butchers will close this weekend

Saturday will mark the end of an era in Ballyshannon as Rooney’s Butchers will close for the final time.

Sean and Rita Rooney will turn the key for the last time on Saturday to make the end of a 64-year journey.

The business has been in the family since 1961 and Sean has been working in the butchers since 1969.

“We discussed it long and hard and I had made up my mind since last year,” Sean says.

“I said it last year that I wouldn’t do another Christmas in the place. In the last while, people have been coming in and taking about Christmas so we had to make the decision and we are finishing up this weekend.”

The family have thanked their loyal customers and have asked that anyone with vouchers to call in and redeem them by the close of business on Saturday.
