Second Donegal Town café announces ‘very hard decision’ to close its doors

Donegal Five Fifty is to close its doors at the end of the month

There has been a huge outpouring of support for young entrepreneur Ella McMahon following her announcement that she is closing her café, Five Fifty.

This announcement follows the recent closure of Dock 84 owned by O’Hehir’s, with both premises located in Donegal Town.

Ella took over the café at Drumrooske Business Park in 2024, and chose the name to coincide with Donegal Town’s 550th birthday celebrations.

She said: “Just over a year ago, I opened the doors to my little café. At 19, I had no idea what I was stepping into — all I knew was that I had a dream and an amazing opportunity.

“Although it’s been a challenging year, it’s also been one of the best full of laughs, new friendships, growth, and memories I’ll always treasure.

“After so much love and effort, I’ve made the very hard decision to close the café at the end of this month.

"To my regular customers who became friends your chats, kindness, guidance, and support kept me going, and I’ll always be so grateful.

“And of course, thank you to my dad for all his support and hard work. None of this would have been possible without him.”
