Lidl Ireland opened the doors to its brand new store in Bundoran today, bringing its 'More to Value' proposition to the Donegal community.

Located on Station Road, near the original Lidl premises, the newly relocated Lidl store, granted planning permission in 2023, marks a major milestone in the retailer’s investment in Donegal, now employing more than 30 people in the town.

Donegal County LGFA Captain, Roisin Rodgers, alongside teammate and local Aodh Ruadh player Cait Gillespie, officially cut the ribbon this morning and greeted shoppers as they enjoyed opening day festivities.

Lidl Bundoran had a great range of opening day offers available for customers and the first ten shoppers through the doors received complimentary Lidl gift vouchers to redeem in-store.

To mark the opening as part of its commitment to the local community, the Lidl Bundoran store team selected local charity Ozanam Hour Residential Unit, to receive a generous donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers. The charity provides assisted living for older people who want to keep their independence but feel supported in a safe and secure environment.

The new upgraded store in Bundoran reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious sales floor, offering a premier shopping experience for customers including self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Bundoran store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system. This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with Dali control, and heat recovery systems. Within the 120-space car park, the provision of a number of bike spaces and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams.

At the official opening Tom McAuliffe, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland said: “We are delighted to officially open the doors to our state-of-the-art new store in Bundoran today. This upgraded premises represents a substantial investment, securing long-term employment and providing a major boost to the local Donegal economy.

"Designed with a keen focus on customer experience and sustainability, the innovative building boasts an energy-efficient design, an expanded sales floor, and unique in-store facilities. Shoppers can continue to expect our commitment to offering high-quality products at market-leading value in this more modern shopping environment.

"We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and support from the Bundoran community, and we enjoyed meeting many residents at this morning’s opening. We look forward to welcoming many more shoppers over the coming weeks as they get to know the team and experience the benefits of this brand-new store.”

Donegal County LGFA Captain, Roisin Rodgers, added: “I am thrilled to be part of the celebrations this morning and to officially open Lidl’s brand-new store here in Bundoran. It was great fun to be part of the official ribbon cutting and to feel the fantastic energy from the crowds at the doors.

"As a Donegal local, it’s brilliant to see Lidl’s continued investment in the area. This modern store will truly enhance the shopping experience for both residents and visitors to our busy seaside town. Lidl has been a long-standing supporter of the LGFA for a decade now, and it’s great to see that commitment translate into tangible growth for the community through new jobs and market-leading value.

"I’ve really enjoyed meeting many of the shoppers here this morning and I’d encourage everyone to come down and experience this brilliant new store for themselves!”
