A burnt out car will be disposed of after Donegal Gardai were unable to make contact with the registered owner of the vehicle.

The car, a Toyota Auris, was completely damaged by a fire on March 4, 2022.

In moving an application for a disposal order at Letterkenny District Court, Sergeant Gerard Dalton said the car was rendered unsellable and unfixable.

Sergeant Dalton told the court that Gardai had made 'numerous attempts' to contact the owner.

Several letters and text messages were sent with no reply forthcoming.

The disposal order was granted by Judge Éiteáin Cunningham.

Under The Police (Property) Act, 1897, Gardai can make such orders where they cannot ascertain either the owner or any claimant of the property.
