Man burgled rural house while armed with wheel brace

The man pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court

A man has pleaded guilty to an aggravated burglary of a house in rural Donegal.

James Gallagher was armed with a wheel brace when he burgled the home of Edward Sweeney at Doaghbeg, Fanad on September 23, 2018.

Gallagher is in custody and was brought before Letterkenny Circuit Court this week.

Gallagher a 36-year-old from Cushlawn Park, Tallaght spoke only to plead guilty during the brief hearing when he was formally arraigned.

Gallagher is charged with committing a burglary and at the time having with him a weapon of offence, to wit a wheel brace
The offence is contrary to Section 13 (1) and (3) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.

Judge John Aylmer remanded Gallagher in custody and adjourned the case until the May sitting of Lettrkenny Circuit Court.
