Letterkenny courthouse
A west Donegal man in his 70s has pleaded guilty to the possession of child abuse material.
The man appeared before Letterkenny District Court this week. A publication restriction order was imposed meaning that the accused cannot be named at this time.
Garda Sergeant Gerard Dalton told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has consented to the accused being forwarded to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court, which commences on June 20 next.
Sergeant Dalton said there were no summary matters in the case.
The man will be sent forward on a signed plea, the court heard.
The man is charged with, on a date in 2021, the possession of images depicting child pornography.
Solicitor for the accused man, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said that all matters had been dealt with by arrangement.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham noted the signed plea of guilty and made a section 56 order relating to tapes of interviews.
Legal aid was granted to Mr Gallagher and two legal counsel assigned.
