Gardai detected the driver - who was charged for a court appearance - travelling at 166km/h in the Burnfoot area on Saturday night.

Donegal motorist clocked at more than double speed limit

A motorist was detected driving at more than double the speed limit in Donegal on Saturday night.

The driver in question faces a court date after being apprehended by Garda in Burnout.

Officers from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were on duty when they detected a vehicle being driven at 166km/h.

The area in question is governed by a speed limit of 80km/h.

The driver was arrested and charged to appear in court.

A Garda spokesperson warned: “Speed kills. Slow down.”
