Uninsured driver caught after overtaking gardai and breaking red light

Gardai in an unmarked car landed a catch in the early hours of Wednesday morning when a motorist in the Buncrana area overtook them before breaking a red light

An uninsured driver was caught after overtaking Gardai and breaking a red light.

The motorist was nabbed by officers from the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit in the early hours of Wednesday.

Gardai were on patrol in an unmarked car when they were overtaken by a car in an area where roadworks are ongoing.

After the car broke the red light, Gardai checked and the driver was showed to be uninsured.

The car was seized and the driver will now be prosecuted.

“Gardaí are calling to many play schools and creches as part of this week's itinerary and are explaining the basics of road safety to kids,” a Garda spokesperson said.

“Most people understand how traffic lights work . .  .right?

“Never take unnecessary risks on the roads.”
