Driving bans for motorists who parked in disabled bays

Two men have been handed driving bans after they failed to turn up in court to pay fines for parking in disabled bays.

The drivers had received fixed penalty notices but failed to pay them.

When the cases were called at a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court this week, the drivers were not present and had no legal representative.

Judge Ciaran Liddy hit the drivers with fines, costs and also issued them with driving bans.

The cases were taken by Donegal County Council against the drivers for parking in a disabled parking bay without displaying a disabled person parking permit.

The first case taken was against Marco Antonio Tavares Rogerio of Apartment 66, Burnside Park, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

He was charged that on April 3, 2023, he parked in a disabled persons parking bay at Ramelton Road, Letterkenny without displaying a disabled person’s parking permit.

He was convicted, fined €250 and ordered to pay €138 costs to Donegal County Council and allowed three months to pay.

Judge Liddy also disqualified him from driving for three months.

Another motorist, a Miley Connors of 3 Canal Road, Letterkenny, was also charged that on April 28, 2023 this year he parked in a disabled persons parking bay at Courthouse Car Park, Letterkenny without displaying a disabled persons parking permit.

He was convicted, fined €250 and ordered to pay €138 costs to Donegal County Council and allowed three months to pay.

He was also disqualified from driving for six months.
