A new Superintendent has begun working in the Buncrana Garda District.

Superintendent John Grant officially took up the new posting on Monday. Superintendent Grant served in Cavan since October 2022.

His appointment was among several confirmed this week by An Garda Síochána.

Superintendent Barry Doyle transferred to Sligo in early October. In January, he succeeded Goretti Sheridan as Superintendent in the Buncrana District.

Since the transfer of Superintendent Doyle, Buncrana was operating without a Superintendent, prompting Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken to request the allocation of one from the Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris.

There are now four Superintendents in the Donegal Garda Division: Karen Doyle in Ballyshannon, Goretti Sheridan in Letterkenny and David Kelly in Milford; and Superintendent Grant in Buncrana.

Donegal is to return to a standalone Garda Division next year and a permanent Chief Superintendent will be allocated to the county. Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken also oversees the Sligo-Leitrim Division at present.
