Pair released after armed robbery in Rathmullan

On Thursday evening, one man entered a business premises and threatened staff while holding a knife before making off with a large sum of money

Two men arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Rathmullan have been released without charge.

The pair were arrested by after an incident at a business premises in the seaside village on Thursday evening.

At around 7pm, one man entered the premises and threatened staff while holding a knife.

The man left the scene with what gardai have described as ‘a large sum of money’.

No persons were injured during the incident.

In a follow up search, two men, both aged in their 20s, were arrested. The stolen money was recovered and a weapon was also seized by officers.

The two men were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Donegal, but were subsequently released.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The two persons arrested in connection with this incident were released yesterday without charge pending file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
