A young Donegal boy who fractured his arm in a school playground has been awarded €20,000 in damages.
The case of the boy, who is now 11, was heard at Letterkenny Circuit Court before Judge John Aylmer.
Barrister Declan McHugh told the court that the accident happened in the schoolyard of the west Donegal school in September, 2021 when the boy was in fifth class.
There had been a previous assessment by the Personal Injury Assessment Board (PIAB) that the boy should be awarded €13,000 and special costs of €250 by the insurance company.
Judge Aylmer heard the details of the incident and details of a medical report at a previous court sitting and suggested an increased offer.
An updated medical report was received on November 9 and the only issue was that the boy hadn't resumed sporting activities but this could have been for a number of factors.
Mr McHugh said the boy's mothers indicated this wasn't a concern for her.
Mr McHugh told the court that an increased offer of €20,000 plus €250 special costs had been made by the insurance company.
Judge Aylmer said he was happy to approve the offer with the full amount to be lodged in court within three weeks and also allow costs in the case.
