A woman will appear in a Glasgow court on Monday after being charged in connection with the death of a Donegal woman in Glasgow.

Detectives probing the violent death of 61-year-old grandmother Ann Coll have charged the woman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.

The 37-year-old will appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, Police Scotland have confirmed.

The woman was arrested on Friday and has since been charged by detectives.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal,” a spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed.

The body of Ms Coll, a native of Arduns in Gweedore, was found in a flat in the Newfield Place in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire at around 12.45am on December 22. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland launched a murder investigation after a postmortem examination confirmed her death as being suspicious.

CCTV footage obtained by media in Scotland showed Ms Coll visiting her local shop to buy cigarettes on December 19 at 8.46am.

Accompanied by her believed border collie, Ms Coll - who was said to visit the shop multiple times each day - then made the short walk to her home.

"We are fully committed to tracing the person or people responsible as soon as possible and our team are following a positive line of inquiry,” said Detective Chief Inspector Lynsey Watters, who is leading the investigation.

"We truly believe that the answer to this investigation lies within the community.”
