Woman pleads not guilty to passing £280 in dud notes in Letterkenny

A woman has pleaded not guilty to passing £280Stg in counterfeit notes at a Letterkenny convenience store.

Mihaela Niculae was before Letterkenny District Court on Monday.

Niculae, a 46-year-old of Riverside Apartments in Letterkenny pleaded guilty to a separate incident of theft.

Niculae was aided by an interpreter when she appeared before Judge Éiteáin Cunningham.

It was alleged that Niculae passed as genuine nine £20 notes at Kernan's, Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, on January 27, 2019.

Niculae was also charged with passing as genuine five £20 notes at Kernan's, Lower Main Street, Letterkenny, on January 28, 2019.

The offence is contrary to Section 34 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Through her interpreter, Niculae pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Niculae tendered a guilty plea in respect of a theft from Dunnes Stores, Oldtown Road, Letterkenny, on March 10, 2021.

The accused woman was charged with stealing razor blades and airfreshenders to the value of €65. The charges are contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Niculae spoke to plead guilty to this charge.

Solicitor for Niculae Mr Rory O'Brien asked that the counterfeit note charges be put into a hearing date and that the theft matter travel with those matters.

Niculae was remanded on bail to the March 15 sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
