Woman appears in Ballyshannon court over €2,300 theft spree

A woman has appeared in court in Donegal over the theft of almost €2,300 worth of items in a series of incidents across the north west.

Jennifer Ward was before Ballyshannon District Court this week.

Ward, a 31-year-old of Traenmore, Mohill, County Leitrim, was charged in connection with 15 different incidents of theft. Dating from February 2022 until January 2024, the offences relate to items worth a combined €2,298.68.

Among the incidents was the theft of a military rucksack at Main Street, Bundoran on February 1, 2022. The rucksack contained clothing, toiletries and medication worth €450.

Ward was also charged with stealing gin and cider valued at €109.42 from Lidl, Bundoran on April 15, 2023.

Ward was charged with stealing goods worth €162.85 from Homesavers in Ballyshannon on August 22, 2022 and with stealing €91.42 worth of alcohol from Supervalu, Bundoran on Decemebr 13, 2023.

Ward was further charged with stealing alcohol to the value of €297 from Tesco, Sligo, on November 13, 2023, stealing €310 worth of clothing from Sports Direct in Sligo on February 3, 2023 and stealing clothing valued at €292 from Monsoon in Sligo on February 3, 2023.

Garda Declan Conway of Drumshambo Garda Station gave evidence of arresting Ward.

The court heard that when arrested, Ward told the garda: “I thought this was already dealt with”

When put on her election, Ward opted to have the matters dealt with in the District Court.

There were no garda objections to bail.

Judge Ciaran Liddy remanded Ward on bail to appear again before Ballyshannon District Court on May 17.
