Gardaí seized a car in the Ballybofey area in the early hours of Sunday morning after it was established through the use of the active mobility app that the tax had expired 1390 days ago - that's three months shy of four years.
There was nothing displayed on the windscreen so Gardaí will now make further enquiries in relation to the insurance and NCT on the car.
"Please do not take to the roads unless your documentation is up to date and displayed as required," An Garda Siochana warned.
