Woman who ssaulted Garda is sent forward to the circuit court

The 24-year-old is further charged with assault and intoxication

A 24-year-old woman has been sent forward to the circuit court for assaulting a garda and causing her harm.

Fiona Shovlin of Brookfield, Donegal Town, was before Donegal District Court on Monday. She is charged that on May 15, 2022 at Cavangarden, Ballyshannon, she assaulted Garda Joanne Doherty causing her harm. The offence is contrary to Section 3 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act 1997.

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP consented to Shovlin being sent forward on an assigned plea of guilty to Donegal Town Circuit Court starting December 10, 2024. 

Judge Ciaran Liddy granted legal aid in respect of solicitor James Canny, to include a psychological and psychiatric report. 

The defendant is also charged with assaulting Olive Allen and being intoxicated to the extent of being a danger to herself or others. The offences occurred at the Diamond, Donegal Town, also on May 15, 2022.

These charges will be dealt with in Donegal District Court and were adjourned to January 1, 2025.
