A man has pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to another man at Main Street in Buncrana.

Sean Breen appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Damian McFadden on August 9, 2019.

Breen, aged 29, spoke only to confirm his plea of guilty.

The accused, of Marianus Park, Hazel Bank in Derry, had been due in court the previous day but had failed to show.

His barrister, Mr Ciaran O'Rourke led by Shane Costelloe, SC, said there was an innocent communication mistake and that Breen had simply got the wrong day.

Mr O'Rourke told the court that  his client had been doing his best to change his circumstances over the past five years.

He said the case had weighed and, as well as a probation report, Mr Breen asked the court for a medical and GP report.

Judge John Aylmer agreed to the request and adjourned the case to the October sessions of the court for final sentencing.
