Gardai have urged homeowners to take the necessary precautions after two attempted burglaries in the Buncrana area recently.
Gardaí are investigating what is believed to have been an attempted burglary at a house in the area of Doonwood, Buncrana between midnight and 9am on Monday, June 24.
Door handles on a set of double doors into the home were interfered with and damaged but entry was not gained.
Gardaí are also appealing for the assistance of the public in relation to an attempted burglary at Clonblosk, Buncrana on Monday July, 1 at approximately 3.15am.
The doorbell was rang a number of times but the homeowner did not answer. The intruder then proceeded to the rear of the house and pulled open an unlocked bathroom window. The homeowner shouted out and the intruder immediately left the area.
“We appeal to anybody who may have been in that area between 3am and 4am with a dash-cam to make the footage available to Gardaí,” a Garda spokesperson said.
“If anybody can assist with any relevant information, we ask them to contact Gardaí in Buncrana on 074-9320540 or to call the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.”
The Garda spokesperson said these incidents serve as a reminder for people to ensure that their property is secure especially when unoccupied or when going to bed.
The spokesperson said: “Please ensure that your doors and windows are secured and leave keys out of sight.
“Do not keep large amount of cash at home. Keep an eye out for neighbours particularly those who live alone. Always report suspicious activity to Gardaí immediately.”
