Gardai in Donegal are on the hunt for a man involved in an attempted theft from the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary last week.

The owners of the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary, located at Castledooey, Raphoe faced a terrifying ordeal when threatened by a person attempting to steal donation tins.

On Tuesday, June 25, at approximately 8.30pm a white car pulled in at the roadside and a man got out and walked up the long lane to the sanctuary carpark where the donations box is located.

The owner came out and challenged him and he left on foot. The white car left the area immediately.

Gardai have issued a profile of the man involved in the incident.

A spokesperson said: “The man in question had a heavy build, he wore navy tracksuit bottoms, a black hooded coat with a red hat under the hood, his face was covered. He wore white socks and black runners with some red along the heels and sides.

“We wish to appeal to any road users who may have travelled in any of the back roads surrounding the donkey sanctuary and on the N14 (Letterkenny to Lifford Main Road) who had a dash cam to make the footage available to Gardaí.

“If anybody seen this man or a white car in that area we also wish to hear from them. Gardaí may be contacted in Letterkenny on 074-9167100 in connection with the incident.”
The facility at Castledooey, Raphoe is run by Danny and Sandra Curran who rely on donations to run the sanctuary.
In recent times they have been working round the clock to hard rear a baby donkey, Rose, which was rejected at birth by her mother, who is also receiving care.
