Donegal Gardai urge vigilance after spate of thefts and damage to vehicles

Gardai are probing incidents in the Muff and Bundoran areas and have issued a reminder to vehicle owners to be safety conscious

Gardai in Donegal are appealing for motorists to be vigilant and security conscious following a spate of incidents relating to thefts from and criminal damage to vehicles of late.

A theft took place from a car in the Carnamoyle area of Muff between 11.30pm on Tuesday, July 16 and 5.15am on Wednesday, July 17.

A Dell laptop was stolen from the boot of the car. A second car at the property was also entered and searched through but nothing was stolen from it.

Two cars at another residence in the area of Carnamoyle, Muff were also entered between midnight and 7.40am on Wednesday, July 17

They appear to have been searched but nothing was stolen. Again, no damage was caused as they were unlocked.

Two cars were entered in the area of Gortcormican, Burnfoot in the early hours of Wednesday, July 17, between approximately midnight to 5am. No damage was caused to these cars and nothing was stolen from them.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Our appeal is to anybody who may have travelled in the areas of Carnamoyle, Muff or Gortcormican, Burnfoot with a dashcam between the night of Tuesday, July 16 and the morning of Wednesday, July 17 to make the footage available to Gardaí.

“If anybody observed any suspicious activity/vehicles in these areas between those dates or if they have any relevant information, we ask them to contact Buncrana Garda Station on 074-9320540.”

Meanwhile, in Bundoran on Church Road between 8pm on Saturday, July 20 and 3pm on Sunday, July 21, a car parked at the location was damaged.

The driver’s door was scraped and the boot was keyed.

A Garda spokesperson said in relation to this matter: “We would like to hear from anybody who may have observed suspicious activity in that area over the course of the weekend.

“Any relevant information should be passed to Gardaí in Ballyshannon on 071-9858530.”

Following these incidents, Gardai have issued a reminder to the public to be security conscious when parking their carl.

“Try to park in well lit up area. Store your car keys away from windows and letterboxes.

“Don’t store cash or valuables in your car. Always report any suspicious activity to Gardaí.”
