Man due in court following attempted arson and criminal damage in St Johnson

A special sitting of Letterkenny District Court will take place at 7:30pm

A man in his 20s who was arrested for a number of incidents of attempted arson and criminal damage in St Johnson is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court this evening.

Gardaí in Letterkenny are investigating the circumstances in relation to a number of incidents, understood to be at St Baithin's Church, the Masonic Hall and the Orange Hall. The court sitting is at 7:30pm.

At approximately 9.45pm last night, Wednesday Gardaí received reports of criminal damage to a property in St Johnston. A second report of criminal damage occurred later in the night and Gardaí conducted a search of the area. The man was arrested a short distance from the scene and was conveyed to a Garda station in the Donegal Division. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations are ongoing.
