Gardaí arrested a number of drivers for drink or drug-driving
Gardai in Donegal have issued a fresh appeal after another busy couple of days for the Roads Policing Units in the county.
On Friday night, a motorist was arrested for dangerous driving after being encountered by gardaí.
The driver in question failed to stop when Gardaí signalled to do so.
A number of dangerous driving manoeuvres were then performed by the driver who was subsequently arrested and charged to appear in court.
On Saturday, a driver was stopped by Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit at a mandatory intoxicant testing checkpoint (MIT). They were arrested after they failed the roadside breath test. The driver will receive a fixed charge penalty notice and will face a three-month disqualification upon payment of same.
A driver was stopped on Saturday in the Killygordon area by Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit and an arrest was made after they tested positive for cocaine, cannabis and benzodiazepines. Further test results are now awaited on the test.
A driver was arrested by Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit on Saturday in Letterkenny on suspicion of drink-driving after they had been observed driving erratically.
The driver provided false details to Gardaí and the reason for doing so and their true identity was soon established. A number of bench warrants were in existence for them. A court appearance will follow.
Buncrana Roads Policing Unit arrested three drivers last night on suspicion of drink/drug driving (two drug and one drink-driving). Five drivers in total were arrested in a 24-hour period within the Buncrana District on suspicion of drink or drug-driving.
A spokesperson said: “Many lives are lost on the roads because of poor decisions when it comes to road safety and many families are left utterly devastated.
“Please do not ever drive while under the influence of alcohol/drugs as in doing so you would be risking your own life and the lives of all others you would meet.”
