A 25-year-old man who was detected driving at 123km/h in Donegal has been disqualified from holding a driving licence for three months and fined €350.

Langas Tomas of Supermacs Flats, Main Street, Ballinasloe, County Galway, failed to attend a hearing  scheduled for Ballyshannon District Court on Friday, October 4.

Judge Sandra Murphy said she was satisfied that the defendant had been notified and had been given previous opportunities to attend.

Langas is charged with exceeding the national speed limit on the R262 at Drumbeagh, Mountcharles on August 22, 2023.

Garda John Cahalin gave evidence of detecting the defendant travelling at 123km/h in a 100km/h zone. He stopped the driver and issued a Fixed Charge Notice (FCN) which remains unpaid.

“The fine would be €160 and three penalty points,” he said.

Inspector Angela Cummins outlined eight previous convictions which include careless driving, no insurance, no licence, and no tax.
