A man from Letterkenny in County Donegal will be sentenced on December 4 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted sexual communication with a child under 16.

Patrick Kelly (36) of Drumcavany in Letterkenny appeared at Derry Crown Court.

He was re-arraigned on one charge of attempted sexual communication with a child on dates between February 21 and February 25 2024.

When the charge was put to him he pleaded guilty and two other charges were ordered to be left on the books.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that a report from an educational psychologist would be required.

Judge Neil Rafferty KC said that he would require a pre-sentence report on the defendant and that would have to be done by the probation service in the Republic.

He told Kelly that following his guilt plea he would have to sign the Sex Offender's Register and the duration of that order would be determined on the day of sentencing.

Kelly was released on bail and will be sentenced on December 4.
