Man sent for trial over alleged money laundering in Letterkenny

A book of evidence was served on the 23-year-old when he appeared at Letterkenny District Court and the case is now se to go before the Circuit Court

Man faces trial in Letterkennn on money laundering charges

A man has been sent forward for trial for alleged money laundering offences in Letterkenny.

A book of evidence was served on Othniel Matondo when he appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

Among the charges he faces is that on April 16, 2020, at a place within the State, did engage in converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that is the proceeds of criminal conduct, to wit €2,990 that was credited to his Revolut account.

The charge is Contrary to Section 7 of the Criminal Justice Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act.

Garda Gillian Page gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the 23-year-old accused at 11.37am on October 21, 2024.

Sergeant Maurice Doyle informed the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the accused be sent to stand trial at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham returned Matondo for trial and administered the alibi warning.

Legal aid was granted to Matondo’s solicitor, Mr Rory O’Brien, and two legal counsel were assigned in the matter.
