A Letterkenny man has pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a young woman in the town.

Christopher O'Kane appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court before Judge John Aylmer.

The 34-year-old of Glenwood Park is charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a residence in Letterkenny on November 5, 2022.

The charge is Contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Amendment Act 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act of 2001.

O'Kane spoke only to confirm his plea of guilty.

Barrister for O'Kane, Ms Patricia McLaughlin SC, said her client had no previous convictions.

She asked for a probation report to be compiled on her client and asked for sentencing to be adjourned to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.

Judge Aylmer agreed and also asked that the probation report include the suitability for community service.
