The Audi A6 was forfeited to the State

An Audi A6 car used in a spate of burglaries in Donegal has been forfeited to the State.

The vehicle was bearing false plates when it was seized by Gardai.

The car was lifted by officers as part of an investigation into burglaries. Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that the vehicle was used in “a number of burglaries’”.

Sergeant Collins told the court that a letter was sent to the last registered owner of the vehicle, asking them to either claim back the car or to pay arrears for storage.

However, the letter was returned saying that the person was not at that address.

Sergeant Collins sought to have the property forfeited to the State.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said she was satisfied that every effort had been made to contact the owner and granted the order.
