Vehicle security urged after theft from car in Letterkenny

A theft incident took place in Letterkenny on Saturday night

Garda have urged the public to ensure that their vehicles are locked and to be mindful of the security of contents.

It follows an incident in Letterkenny on Saturday night.

A theft incident occurred at the car park at An Grianan Theatre between 7.30pm and 11pm.

Entry was gained to a car that was parked at that location and it was searched through.

A sum of money was stolen from a wallet that was in the car and a number of bank cards were stolen also.

Garda are appealing to anybody who may have observed suspicious activity in the area between those times to make contact with Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100. The Garda Confidential line may be reached on 1800 666 111.

“We want to take this opportunity to advise the public to be aware of the security of their car and the contents,” Sergeant Eunan Walsh said.

“Please park in well-lit areas and always ensure that your car is locked. Keep all cash, handbags, purses out of your car.

“Do not leave anything of high value in it which can be quite a common occurrence at this time of year when out people are out doing the Christmas shopping.

“If you must buy something of a high value then please leave that purchase until you are ready to go home so you do not have to leave it unattended whilst you finish your shopping.

“If you ever see anyone attempting to open cars or looking into cars and you feel that their behaviour is odd while you are out and about, please contact Gardaí immediately.”
