Donegal man to stand trial for allegedly letting criminal cash pass through account

A Letterkenny man is to stand trial for allegedly allowing almost €23,000 of criminal cash to pass through his bank account.

Dylan Laughlin appeared at Letterkenny District Court where he was served with a book of evidence in the case. Garda Gillian Page gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the 30-year-old of Windmill View, Glencar, Letterkenny.

Loughlin had previously been arrested by Detective Garda Gerard McCready under Section 10 of the Criminal Justice Act. He is charged that between May 3, 2022, and March 3, 2023, at AIB, Upper Main Street, Letterkenny, he did engage in converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that is the proceeds of criminal activity.

This property was cash lodgements to his AIB account accumulating to €22,958 over that period of time while knowing that it was the proceeds of criminal conduct or being reckless as to whether or not the said property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle confirmed the DPP had that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had recommended trial by indictment at Letterkenny Circuit Court in February 2025. Loughlin was given the alibi warning by Judge Eiteain Cunningham.

Bail was continued on the same conditions. These include that Laughlin sign on three times a week at Letterkenny Garda Station, provide Gardai with a mobile phone number and be contactable 24 hours a day.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Rory O'Brien, requested two counsels for his client's trial and the case was adjourned to the next circuit court sitting.
