A woman who attacked another person in a pizza takeaway in Letterkenny and stamped on her phone has been ordered to pay her victim €1,000.

Chloe Curran appeared at Letterkenny District Court where she was charged with assaulting Megan Hegarty at Pizza Max at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny on May 1, 2023.

The victim reported the matter to Gardai at Letterkenny Garda station.

Garda Sharona O'Toole told the court that Ms Hegarty said she had been assaulted by Curran and had received injuries to her face and back.

Gardai obtained CCTV footage and Curran was seen in the footage.

Curran was charged with assault causing harm to Ms Hegarty and also criminal damage to her iPhone 13.

When arrested, Curran admitted assaulting Ms Hegarty.

Garda O'Toole told the court that Ms Hegarty's new iPhone, valued at €900, had also been destroyed after Curran had stood on it a number of times during the incident.

Solicitor for Curran, of Trearty Cottage Aughalatty, Carrigart, Mr Kieran O'Gorman, said his client is aged 22 and has a young son.

He added that on the day his client had a lot of alcohol to drink.

Judge Ciaran Liddy said that he was rounding up the compensation for the damaged phone from €900 to €1,000 and adjourned the case until March 21, 2025 to allow the compensation to be paid to Ms Hegarty.

Her solicitor thanked Judge Liddy, adding: "She wants this to be finished and she will do her best."
