A Donegal Town woman has pleaded guilty to assaulting a female Garda and causing her harm.

Fiona Shovlin, 24, appeared at Donegal Circuit Court and admitted assaulting Garda Joanne Doherty.

The incident happened on May 15, 2022 at Cavangarden, Ballyshannon.

The offence is contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against The Person Act 1997.

The accused woman, of Brookfield, Donegal Town, spoke only to confirm her guilty plea.

Her barrister, Mr Ciaran Elders BL, told the court that his client is engaging with the mental health services and was looking for a certificate to cover a psychiatric report.

Judge John Aylmer agreed to the request and adjourned the case for sentencing until the next session of Donegal Circuit Court.
