A Newtowncunningham man has appeared in court in connection with a serious assault.

Scott Magee pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court.

A 27-year-old, with an address at Coill na Ros, Newtowncunningham, Magee was charged with unlawfully assaulting Barry Quinn and causing him harm on December 4, 2021 at Ramelton Road, Letterkenny.

Mr Peter Nolan BL, barrister for Magee, instructed by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher, told the court that his client has some previous convictions.

Mr Nolan said that Magee is currently in employment and has not come to the notice of An Garda Siochana since this offence. Mr Nolan added that he was “anxious that the court is given every possible sentencing option available to it”.

Judge Aylmer asked that a probation report, to include an assessment on Magee’s suitability for community service, be prepared.

The case was adjourned until the July sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
