A Letterkenny man who was caught in possession of almost €500 worth of cocaine has been given a chance to avoid a conviction.

Sean McGovern was found with seven grams of the drug in June 2022.

The 32-year-old, with an address at Cill Greine, Lismonaghan, Letterkenny, was before Letterkenny District Court.

The court heard that gardai obtained a search warrant on June 4, 4022 and carried out a search. Cocaine valued at €490 was located.

Judge Ciaran Liddy accepted jurisdiction in the case.

McGovern was charged with being in possession of cocaine for the purpose of selling or supplying it to others.

His solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client had had some health difficulties but is “now on the straight and narrow”.

He said McGovern has not come to the adverse attention of gardai since and added: “He is a man I don’t believe you will see back here”.

“Certainly, he has learned a lesson,” Mr Gallagher said. “He has had a lot of stress and he is doing his life’s best.”

Judge Liddy said that if McGovern made a €500 donation to Cara House he would apply section 1.1 of the Probation Act.
