Woman (50s) killed following a single-vehicle collision in north Sligo

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward

A woman in her fifties has died following a single-vehicle collision in north Sligo.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal incident involving a car that occurred at Grellagh, Castlegal, Co Sligo on Monday, March 9.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident, which occurred on the N15 at approximately 3:30am.

The N15 between Bundoran and Sligo had been closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.

The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been removed to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital (SUH), and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The Coroner has been notified

A passenger (male, 50s) was brought to SUH, where his condition is described as critical. The driver (male, 20s) and the third passenger in the car (a male juvenile teenager) are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at SUH. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N15 at Castlegal – between Cliffoney and Tullaghan – between 3:10am and 3:40am on Monday, March 9, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sligo Garda Station on 071 915 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.
