Man produced wheel brace during car park dispute in Letterkenny

A man has pleaded guilty to producing a wheel brace during the course of a dispute in a busy Letterkenny car park.

Chad Mitchell appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court, where he tendered a guilty plea.

Mitchell was formally arraigned before Judge John Aylmer in respect of the incident on November 3, 2022.

The 28-year-old was charged with producing an article capable of inflicting serious injury, contrary to section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

He was charged that, at a car park located at Letterkenny Shopping Centre, while committing an offence, to wit, assault, and in the course of a dispute, he did produce, in a manner likely unlawfully to intimidate another person, namely a wheel brace, being an article capable of inflicting serious injury.

Mitchell, with an address Westend Accommodation, West End, Bundoran, spoke only to plead guilty during the short hearing.

Mr Damian Crawford BL, barrister for Mitchell, instructed by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher, asked the court to consider seeking a probation and welfare report on Mitchell.

Mr Crawford told the court that Mitchell has previous convictions. He said Mitchell was “accosted by another person” in an exchange that was available on CCTV.

Judge Aylmer requested a probation report and asked that it include an assessment as to Mitchell’s suitability for community service. 

Judge Aylmer adjourned the matter until October.
