Man sent forward for trial for alleged rape in south Donegal

A man has been sent forward for trial to the Circuit Criminal Court for the charge of raping a woman in Donegal

The offence which is contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990 is alleged to have taken place in south Donegal in December, 2023.

Gardaí served the defendant with the book of evidence ahead of a recent court sitting. 

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed for the defendant to be sent forward for trial to the present sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court.

The man was sent forward to the Circuit Criminal Court on continuing bail. The judge ordered that no information be reported which would lead to the identification of the alleged victim.
