Buncrana motorist hit with court penalty of almost €300 for failing to pay and display

The defendant did not pay and display for parking in Buncrana last year.

A Buncrana man has been hit with a court fine and costs totalling almost €300 for failing to pay a parking ticket last year.

Ben Lyons, of 7 Ard Na Greine, Buncrana, did not appear before Buncrana District Court to defend a summons brought by Donegal County Council in respect of the matter.

However, Judge Ciaran Liddy directed proceedings to go ahead after ruling that the proofs were in order in the case.

A Buncrana traffic warden told the court how she had been on patrol at Lower Main Street, Buncrana on December 12, 2024, when the offence was detected.

At 2.14pm that afternoon, the warden observed a 2009-registered vehicle with no valid pay and display or electronic payment made.

A fixed charge penalty notice was issued at 4.16pm, and it was placed under the windscreen wipers of the vehicle, while the warden took photos.

The court heard how the fine was not paid.

After hearing the uncontested evidence, Judge Liddy imposed a fine of €150, with a deadline of three months to pay.

He also ordered Mr Lyons to pay additional costs of €138 direct to Donegal County Council, represented by solicitor Donna Ferry in court.

The judge fixed recognisance at €100 cash, should Mr Lyons wish to come to court to appeal the verdict.
