A man caught with €1,000 of cannabis in a jar when stopped by gardaí has appeared in court.Tiernan Conwell appeared at Letterkenny District Court after being caught parked in his car at The Diamond in Lifford on September 8, 2024.
When searched, gardaí found 40 grammes of cannabis in a jar in his car.He was arrested and brought to Letterkenny Garda station where another 10 grammes of cannabis was found on him.
The 19-year-old faced a number of drug-related charges as a result of the incident.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Conwell, of Barn Road in Strabane, was fully cooperative when stopped by gardaí.Solicitor for the accused, Frank Dorrian, told the court that this was not the most sophisticated endeavour.
He added that his client also disputes the amount of cannabis which he had which he also claimed he had taken earlier from a mate's house.Conwell also told gardaí that he knew it was wrong to be selling the cannabis but was only doing it because of the amount of cannabis he was smoking himself.Judge Ciaran Liddy found Conwell guilty of the Section 15 Misuse of Drugs charge and took the other charges into consideration. He fined the accused €500.
