A 26-year-old man has been fined and disqualified from holding a driving licence after being convicted for drink driving, and driving without insurance.
Dylan Chambers of 11 Emmet Park, Castlefin, was before Ballyshannon District Court on Friday, November 7. He pleaded guilty to driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit at Coolcholloy, Ballyshannon on June 2, 2024. Chambers also admitted driving without insurance on the same occasion, and to driving without a licence.
Inspector Dermot Treacy told the court that the defendant had an alcohol level of 55mcg alcohol per 100ml of breath.
Solicitor Patsy Gallagher told the court that the defendant had no recent previous convictions.
“I ask the court to treat this as an early plea,” he said. “This is a young man, a student with limited means. I ask the court to keep the fine as low as possible.”
On the charge of driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham imposed a fine of €200 and a two-year driving ban. For driving without insurance, Chambers was fined a further €150, with two-year driving ban to run concurrently to that imposed for drink driving.
The charge of driving without a licence was taken into consideration.
Legal aid was granted to Mr Patsy Gallagher.
