Clonmany man faces court bill of €288 for parking in front of entrance in Buncrana

The parking case was heard at Buncrana District Court.

A Clonmany man who parked in front of an entranceway earlier this year has been fined €150 and ordered to pay additional court costs of €138.

James Doherty, of Corner House, Drumfries, Clonmany, did not attend Buncrana District Court to answer a charge of parking in a manner which obstructed traffic.

However, after being shown proof that he had been notified, Judge Emile Daly ruled that the case against Mr Doherty could go ahead as scheduled.

A Buncrana-based traffic warden was sworn in to give evidence in the brief hearing.

She told the court how she had been on duty at Lower Main Street, Buncrana on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, when the offence was recorded.

At 10.23am that morning, the warden observed a 2018-registered vehicle obstructing an entrance.

At 12.24pm the warden issued a fixed charge penalty notice, placed it behind the windscreen wipers, and took photos for evidence.

The court heard how the fine was originally €40, which increased to €60, but it was never paid, resulting in a Donegal County Council summons in the case.

Judge Daly found the facts proven and imposed a fine of €150, while also ordering Mr Doherty to pay the Council's legal costs of €138.

She gave him a deadline of four months to pay the €288 total.
