Churchill man to face Circuit Court over alleged assault in Letterkenny

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented for the accused to be sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court in February

A Churchill man is to stand trial for an alleged assault in Letterkenny.

Gary Burke, of Derrora, Churchill, is accused of assaulting another man at Lower Main Street in Letterkenny on May 17, 2024.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented for the accused to be sent forward for trial at the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court in February.

He added that the option of a signed plea had also been made available by the DPP.

Judge Emile Daly gave the 24-year-old accused the alibi warning.

Legal aid was granted to solicitor Frank Dorrian and one legal counsel was allocated.
