“Our work in relation to safety on the roads will, of course, continue beyond this operation,” Garda Grainne Doherty said. “Sadly, some drivers continue to make irresponsible decisions on our roads such as speeding and driving while under the influence.
“We continue to urge drivers never to drive while under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Please wear your seatbelt, do not hold/use a mobile phone while driving and slow down.
“The roads have been in a treacherous condition over the past number of days. We encourage all drivers to please check their tyres and to ensure that they are in a roadworthy condition before travelling.
“It is recommended that you change your tyres when the tread depth falls below 3mm. The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm.”
