A man is due to stand trial charged with the alleged sexual assault of two women at a nursing facility in Donegal.

The man appeared at Letterkenny District Court before Judge Emile Daly.

The man, who is aged in his 50s, cannot be named for legal reasons.

The accused is charged with two alleged counts of sexual assault against two different people at the same facility during different dates.

The first alleged sexual assault is said to have occurred at the facility between December 1 and December 31 in 2022.

The second offence is alleged to have occurred between December 1, 2022, and May 4, 2023, at the same facility.

Both charges are Contrary to Section 2 of the criminal Law and Rape Amendment Act 1990 as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act.

Garda Pauline Doherty gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused at Letterkenny Courthouse.

Sergeant Jim Collins said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had consented for the accused to be sent forward for trial to the next sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court commencing on February 3rd.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said Gardai had no objection to bail.

A number of bail conditions were set down including that the man surrender his passport and give a phone number to Gardai on which he can be contacted.

Judge Daly gave the accused the alibi warning.

Mr Gallagher requested one counsel for the trial and reserved his position to apply for a second counsel.

Legal aid was also granted and the case was adjourned until February 3, 2026.
