A significant Killybegs employer has been granted conditional planning permission by Donegal County Council to extend their facilities by nearly 50% in size.

Swan-Net Gundry Ltd had applied for their factory premises on Roshin Road, Killybegs, to be extended.

The company specialises in manufacturing netting, especially netting used in the fishing and sports industry. Swan-Net Gundry Ltd was a merger between two Killybegs businesses in 2002. Originally, Gundry’s Ltd was established in 1968, and Swans Net Ltd was founded four years later in 1972.

Paul McCrea, the listed applicant for the development, and the Managing Director of Swan-Net Gundry Ltd, applied for the construction of a pitch roof single-storey extension to the rear of the net production building, and a single-storey lean-to-roof extension to the side of the net production facility, to include all associated site development works.

The permitted plans will see an increase in the gross floor works area of 1,076 sq metres, from the currently available 2,173.4 sq metres.

Donegal County Council granted the application planning permission with five conditions, for reasons of ensuring orderly development and preserving the amenities of the area.

A condition was also placed that the applicant contributes €4,511.13 in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefitting the development in the area of the Planning Authority that is already provided or is intended to be provided by the Authority.
