The case was before Letterkenny District Court
A Donegal man has been given until the end of April to pay €2,000 to the victim of a serious assault.
The case was before Letterkenny District Court and the man was charged with assault causing harm and with the breach of court orders.
The man, who is in his 30s, was not present for the brief mention of the matter before Judge Ciaran Liddy.
The man was charged with assaulting a woman and causing her harm in December, 2023. The charge is contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
He is also charged with contravening a barring order and with two counts of breaching a protection order issued by the court. These charges are contrary to section 33 (1) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2018.
The man cannot be named due to the nature of the charges.
Mr Kieran O’Gorman, solicitor for the man, said his client has been under the care of a psychiatric doctor and asked for more time to make a payment.
“He is doing his best to get the €2,000 gathered up,” Mr O’Gorman said. “He knows what the repercussions are if he doesn’t pay.”
The case was adjourned to April 27.
