A solicitor for Donegal County Councillor Frank McBrearty has asked a Judge to allow his client's Circuit Court matters to be dealt with before addressing his District Court cases.
The Raphoe-based councillor was not in court for the mention of his charges at Letterkenny Circuit Court.
The 56-year-old, of Tullyvinny, Raphoe, faces a number of charges in the district court.
They include three charges of alleged assault, a public order charge and also an alleged careless driving charge.
He is charged with assault at County House in Lifford on May 3, 2023 as well as two other further alleged assaults also at County House in Lifford on June 29, 2022.
Councillor McBrearty has also been charged with a public order offence on March 23, 2022 at Ballymacarry Lower, Buncrana.
Councillor McBrearty's solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client faces "more substantive matters" before the February sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
He said the reality was that Councillor McBrearty's circuit court cases will not be dealt with during the upcoming sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court.
He asked the court to adjourn the District Court matters to September for mention.
Solicitor for Donegal County Council, Mr Michael Staines, told Judge Emile Daly that he was in court on behalf of the council and other witnesses in each of the cases.
The cases were adjourned to September for mention.
