New owners of a closed hotel hope to reopen for business in 2026 after applying to Donegal County Council for permission for the completion of construction works.
Creevy By The Sea Limited has applied for the completion of the construction of two extensions to the rear of Creevy Pier Hotel to provide additional storage, services and staff facilities
The hotel, located south of Rossnowlagh and north west of Ballyshannon, had a liquidator appointed by the High Court in 2024 and was later put up for sale for €1.2 million.
It comprised ten en-suite bedrooms, a five-bedroom bungalow, a 526 sq metre restaurant and lounge bar.
Writing on behalf of Creevy By The Sea, Paul Doherty Architects Ltd commented: “The Creevy Pier Hotel was once a thriving Hotel and local landmark, but has been closed for a number of years and was put into receivership.
“The hotel was purchased by our clients recently, and they are currently undertaking an internal upgrade and revamp with the intention of re-opening for business for the start of the tourist season 2026.
“The directors of the company which have purchased the hotel are local to the Donegal Town and Ballyshannon area, and one of the directors previously worked in the hotel as a teenager.

“On review of the existing facilities and after consultations with the environmental health officer it was agreed to remove existing portacabin structures and temporary timber structures to the rear of the hotel, which had been used as storage and service facilities and to construct two small flat roof extensions to the rear of the property to provide the required storage and staff changing and toilet facilities, including a plant room to facilitate the new heating and water storage facility and provide current standard staff changing and rest facilities.
“The proposed use of the extensions is ancillary to the use of the building as a hotel and is necessary as part of the upgrade of the staff facilities and sustainable/renewable heating system now being installed.
“The purchase of this hotel and the current capital expenditure undertaken by the new owners will bring the hotel up to modern standards and will ensure the provision of tourist accommodation in the Creevy area into the future, and is to be welcomed and will create additional employment for the local community.”
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the application on Thursday, March 19.
